Two couples were along 8th and Franklin getting boba Saturday afternoon when two men in ski masks grabbed the purse belonging to two of the women.
⠀
One man who wants to be identified only as “Mr. Chan” (pictured on the left) says “they pulled their shirts up and showed they have guns under their pants. Immediately we all froze.”
⠀
Mr. Chan sprang into action and grabbed his girlfriend’s handbag and was pistol-whipped in the process. He is icing and recovering.
⠀
A Good Samaritan also jumped in to grab the other woman’s purse away from the suspects and was shot in the left armpit and right thigh. You can see in the dramatic cell phone video his injuries.
⠀
I spoke to him from his hospital bed— where he is recovering well and hoping to go home tomorrow night.
⠀
On behalf of the two couples, I’ll be visiting the Good Samaritan tomorrow and will bring flowers. Please let me know if you have any words of support for him. There is an official GoFundMe being started now and I’ll the info for you tomorrow.

This comes on the heels of attacks in Chinatown, like the two violent robbery attacks at 9th and Harrison in two days last month.
