Two former JCPS coaches, Donnie and Ronnie Stoner, who are facing a combined 52 criminal counts, including sexual abuse of students, are on track to go to trial in February.
The trial was initially supposed to start Monday, but has been pushed back because of attorney changes.
Alleged victims of the Stoners told WAVE a pushback is a disappointment, but their bigger goal has always been to ensure what they say happened to them doesn’t happen to anyone else.
Crook said she’s been waiting over 20 years for that accountability. She said it was 2005 when the Stoners started abusing her.
She is just one victim named in an indictment against the brothers and their close friend, Zachary Kilgore, including charges of sexual abuse, rape, sodomy and more.
Since that indictment last July, Crook and the other three alleged victims named in the documents, including Ronnie’s daughter, have been to all of the Stoners’ court dates.
Crook said the first one was the hardest.
“It was just very hard to be even in the vicinity with them. It was very hard when they looked at us. It was just a very… it was very emotional,” Crook said. “I think that it’s… seeing them every court date, like, I don’t look forward to it. I don’t think anybody does.”
