Suspected gunman has shot and killed himself at 345 Park Ave., a Midtown Manhattan office building
A suspected gunman has shot and killed himself at 345 Park Ave., a Midtown Manhattan office building, after shooting an NYPD officer and at least one civilian Monday evening in the lobby, according to police sources.
The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. at the building that contains offices for Blackstone and the NFL headquarters. The building remains under lockdown and tenants are being told to shelter in place.
A team from the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York is at the scene of tonight’s skyscraper shooting to help, Attorney General Pam Bondi said.
The interim U.S. attorney for the region, Jay Clayton, “has set up a command post to assist with the shooting in New York City and local FBI agents are on the scene,” Bondi said on X.
Employees in a nearby building were told to shelter in place and to stay away from windows.
“An incident has occurred outside of the building,” said a warning broadcast on the fifth floor of 399 Park Ave., video from the scene shows.
“Please stay inside, shelter in place, stay away from the windows until further instructions from the NYPD,” the person issuing the alert says over the system.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said just before 8 p.m. that the shooter was “neutralized” and the scene had been contained.
The suspect had not yet been identified. A motive for the shooting was also not clear.
Records indicate that multinational businesses with offices inside the building at that address include the National Football League, as well as financial firms Blackstone and KPMG.
