A substitute teacher for Caddo Parish Schools has been charged with making false active shooter alerts.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) was alerted on August 19 by officials from the Caddo Parish School Board about possible threats after emergency alerts were received from multiple schools.
School officials immediately carried out security measures to make sure the safety of students and staff while figuring out the legitimacy of the reported threats, says CPSO.
They quickly found out that the alerts were fake and identified Barfield as the person responsible for sending them.
Later, Detective Jackson of the CPSO found Barfield and questioned her about the incident, says the sheriff’s office.
Based on the evidence and information gathered during the investigation, Barfield was arrested and taken to the Caddo Correctional Center, where she was booked on five counts of menacing.
