Woman accused of hitting boyfriend in head with hatchet while he was sleeping.

According to the documents, police were called to the 700 block of 14 Street North at 5:30 a.m. after a man claimed he had been assaulted with a weapon.

When they arrived on scene, the victim told officers he was alone and had been attacked without warning. He was then taken to the emergency room for treatment.

Police later talked to another man who was at the scene who said the victim had been attacked by his girlfriend, identified as Deoliveira.

He told police that when he woke up to the screaming, he saw Deoliveira swing down with the hatchet. According to court documents, the man said he couldn’t see what she hit but heard a sound “like splitting wood”.

The man told police he suspected that Deoliveira was “out of it”, but came to after hearing the click from the couch’s footrest and seeing the blood. He said she then fled the scene.

Officers located a blood trail coming from an attached garage, where the man said he was staying, along with the victim and Deoliveira.

The victim had to have surgery on his fingers at the emergency room, and officers were shown pictures of the man’s head with a large slice in it. Another photo showed deep lacerations to his fingers.

Deoliveira was arrested in Moorhead, Minnesota, on Sept. 7. She requested an attorney when officers attempted to interview her. No information or statement from Deoliveira was noted in the report.

The other man who was on scene at the time of the attack provided more details to investigators later.

Two of the victim’s fingers were missing or “kind of hanging”, according to the man.
