Shootout Erupts After Armed Suspect Flees from LAPD – Caught on Camera

LAPD officers in the Topanga Division respond to calls of a man brandishing a weapon, when attempts to deescalate the situation fail, shots ring out. Then, a man accused of assault with a deadly weapon leads officers on a wild pursuit through the streets of Downtown LA, until the driver grows tired of using the road.

Officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Sherman Way and Mason Avenue. According to preliminary reports, a 36-year-old suspect attempted to rob a 31-year-old man at gunpoint; during a struggle, the victim wrestled the handgun away and fatally shot the suspect. 

Additionally, on January 22, 2026, reports emerged of an unrelated incident involving a man with no shirt and long hair who was fatally shot by LAPD officers after loading a magazine into a firearm. Earlier in the month, on January 14, 2026, Topanga Division officers also conducted a 40-minute standoff to arrest a burglary suspect on a roof in Canoga Park.
