A Louisiana woman is in custody after authorities say she fatally shot her 1-year-old daughter inside a home on New Year’s Day.
On January 1, 2026 just after 8 p.m., police say officers were dispatched to a residence on Quelqueshue Street in Sulphur, Louisiana.
Police say Kristin Bass is accused of shooting her daughter, identified as 1-year-old Acelynn Moss. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators reported that the child’s father told officers he heard a loud noise and ran into the room, where he found Bass holding a firearm. Acelynn had been shot, and the couple’s 2-year-old child was inside the home and crying for help.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services has taken custody of the surviving child, authorities said.
Bass was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. She is currently being held on a $10 million bond.
