Multiple people were injured in a shooting inside a funeral home on Wednesday.

The shooting happened inside Cotten Branch Mortuary and Cremation Services on North Florissant Road. Pat Washington with the Ferguson Police Department said the shooting happened inside the mortuary and resulted in multiple injuries.

In a press conference, Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle said there were hundreds of people attending a funeral when the shots rang out just before noon. He said officers arrived on the scene two minutes later and were able to take multiple persons of interest into custody and recover multiple guns.

Doyle called the scene “complete chaos.”

Police said six people were injured. Three were struck by gunfire, two were cut by flying glass, and one person was struck by a car trying to leave the parking lot. Doyle said those who were shot were believed to have “non-life-threatening” injuries.

“It’s unfortunate because you have loved ones who come to a funeral to grieve a member of their family and unfortunately are subjected to this type of chaos,” said Doyle.
