Police Raid Hong Kong pro-democracy outlet over ‘sedition’

Six people at Stand News have been arrested by Hong Kong authorities on grounds of “seditious publication,” signaling the latest crackdown on pro-democracy media in the China-controlled territory.

Stand News was set up in 2014 as a non-profit, and is considered by some to be one of the few remaining free speech outlets in HK since a security investigation closed down Apple Daily.

The head of police dismissed claims the shutdown was politically motivated, saying reporters had published stories inciting hatred against the authorities.
