The recall from Curtis International was shared on Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. It includes around 634,000 Frigidaire mini fridges which have internal electrical components that can short circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing.

There have been at least 26 reports of the recalled mini fridges smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating and catching fire, Curtis International said. The reported incidents have caused more than $700,000 in property damages and two smoke inhalation injuries.

The mini fridges were sold at Walmart stores nationwide and online at Walmart and Amazon from January 2020 through December 2023.

Consumers are instructed to immediately unplug and stop using the recalled fridges. The recall posting also says to write “recall” in permanent marker on the front of the fridges before disposing them in accordance with local and state regulations.
