Niger govt says 137 killed in Sunday attacks

DAKAR – ARMED men killed 137 people in coordinated raids on villages in southwestern Niger on Sunday, the government said, revising the toll up from a previous estimate by local authorities of around 60.
“In treating civilian populations systematically as targets now, these armed bandits have gone a step further into horror and brutality,” government spokesman Zakaria Abdourahamane said in a statement read on public television.
