New Jersey Gov. Murphy declares state of emergency due to flooding
Heavy rain caused flooding, damage and road closures around the state ā particularly in central New Jersey.
The storm is bringing several inches of rain per hour to areas of New Jersey. The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings throughout the state.
Motorists are reminded to never drive through flooded roadways and to stay inside as much as possible during the storm.
Gov. Phil Murphy had declared a state of emergency due to flooding around New Jersey.
āI am declaring a State of Emergency given flash flooding and high levels of rainfall in parts of the state,ā the governor wrote in a post on X. āPlease stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Stay safe, New Jersey.ā
Newark Liberty International Airport has issued a ground stop until 8 p.m. due to the storm.
