According to Loux, Thalia Medina was in contact with her brother and his friend, 15-year-old Jonathan Garcia, telling them the group’s location.
According to the Largo Police Department, several people called 911 shortly after midnight to report shots fired in the area of 126th Avenue and 66th Street.
When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Carlos Medina outside an apartment complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital where he died.
Nearby, officers with the Pinellas Park Police Department found another teen shooting victim and a gun. He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Before the shooting took place, Largo Police Chief Mike Loux said Carlos Medina’s sister, 15-year-old Thalia Medina, had been hanging out with the victim and a group of teens that were traveling between the Charleston Apartment complex on 66th Street and the parking lot of SkyZone Trampoline Park, also located on 66th Street.
