Most of the NFL world’s response was negative, with some media figures expressing disappointment that the franchise quarterback had inserted himself into the political arena. On Saturday, the conversation escalated when one of Dart’s own teammates weighed in.
Jaxson Dart made headlines on Friday after introducing President Donald Trump at a campaign in New York. The video of Dart leading the crowd in a “Go Big Blue” chant before calling it “an honor” and a “privilege” to present the president went viral on social media, and drew reactions from both sides of the political spectrum.
Abdul Carter’s Public Response Adds a New Layer for Jaxson Dart’s Criticism
Abdul Carter, who was drafted by the New York Giants with the third overall pick last year in the same draft class as Dart, criticized the Giants quarterback for mentioning Trump.
“Thought this s**t was AI, what we doing man,” Carter wrote on X.
Carter’s post conveyed disbelief rather than hostility, but because it came from Dart’s teammate rather than a fan or media figure, it significantly altered the story.
Carter and Dart are the two players the Giants are building around under new head coach John Harbaugh. These are the two cornerstones of a franchise that went 4-13 last season and fired Brian Daboll midway through the year.
Dart showed enough in his rookie season to justify being their franchise quarterback. The 25th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards with 15 touchdown passes and just five interceptions across 14 games, adding 487 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. According to PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, he posted an impact score of 76.3 last season, ranking 14th in the league.
Harbaugh was hired in January to install a culture of accountability and toughness, and the organization has backed that vision with significant offseason additions, including fifth overall pick Arvell Reese and tight end Isaiah Likely.
A public disagreement between the team’s two most important young players over politics, even a brief one, is the kind of distraction Harbaugh will need to address before it festers.
Carter’s post might be just a reaction that both players will eventually overlook. However, in a locker room still taking shape under a new coaching staff, a defensive star questioning his quarterback’s judgment, even on non-football issues, isn’t ideal.
Giants’ beat writer Pat Leonard reposted Carter’s reaction to Dart’s appearance with Trump, but offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor asked Leonard to “relax” to avoid escalating the tension.
The Giants open the 2026 season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. Hopefully, by then, Harbaugh will be able to resolve all the issues among the team’s players.
