The film is penned by DeShon Hardy, who will also direct and produce. Davis will executive produce the project under his Reel 85 Productions banner. Filming is set to begin this weekend in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

Hardy said: “Diamond is more than a sports story.

At its core, this film is about resilience, survival, healing from generational trauma, and the transformative power of love. I wanted to shine a light on the strength it takes for families to rise above circumstance, and how even in the darkest places, hope can survive.”

Cynthia Bailey (The Real Housewives of Atlanta), former NFL star turned actor Vernon Davis (The Ritual Killer), and Jemarcus Kilgore (All’s Fair) are set to star in the upcoming sports drama Diamond.

The coming-of-age drama follows 17-year-old basketball phenom Diamond McCarren (Kilgore) as he fights to escape the cycle of trauma threatening to consume his future.

With his father (Davis) behind bars and his mother (Bailey) spiraling deeper into heroin addiction, Diamond shoulders the weight of a broken home while clinging to the hope of a Division I scholarship.

Just as his shot at a better life arrives — a college coach’s visit — his mother suffers a devastating overdose.

Torn between chasing his dream and caring for the only parent he has left, Diamond makes a life-altering decision that challenges everything he thought he knew about loyalty, ambition, and manhood.

In the aftermath, his sacrifice becomes the first step toward healing a family on the brink.
