RawNews1st – Concerns are growing in South Africa about Koeberg’s only operating nuclear power plant, whose operation is facing increasing difficulties.

Among them are noted:

Delay in applying to the nuclear regulator with a request to renew the license to operate a nuclear power plant.

The scandalous dismissal of one of the members of the board of the regulator – an opponent of nuclear energy – by the Minister of Mineral and Energy Resources.

Layoffs of senior Koeberg employees, although there is no evidence that this was due to disagreements.

All of this has led to speculation that trying to extend the operation of the nuclear power plant is facing difficulties.

In turn, this calls into question the capabilities of the nuclear industry in South Africa and is likely to put an end to the very ambitious proposals still being made in this area for the construction of new nuclear plants.
