China Hunger Strike: Wuhan Journo Force Fed to Stay Alive in Prison

A Chinese journalist jailed for reporting on the outbreak of COVID-19 in Wuhan is “near death,” according to her family, and is allegedly being force fed with tubes to keep her alive. Reporters Without Borders call her situation “grave.”

Zhang Zhan traveled to Wuhan in February 2020 to report on the COVID-19 outbreak, where she filmed a series of videos questioning the authorities’ actions.

She was quickly detained and charged with ‘picking quarrels and provoking trouble’ – a charge allegedly used to suppress dissent. Zhang was sentenced to four years in jail.
