Police in Chicago are looking into a report of shots fired by an off-duty officer overnight.

Just before 3 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of shots fired in the 2800 block of West Grace. When officers arrived, a man, who sources say was an off-duty cop, told them he saw several people attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.

After becoming aware that the man was nearby, one of the male offenders pointed a firearm at him.

The off-duty officer drew his firearm and fired at the offender, according to police. According to police, the offenders then entered multiple vehicles and fled the scene.

The off-duty officer was not hurt and was taken to a nearby hospital for chest pain.

No one is in custody, and Area Five Detectives are looking into it.
