Biden signs record $768BN defense budget – no Nord Stream 2 sanctions
President Biden has signed the largest US defense budget ever worth $768BN – including funds to “contain” Russia. It outstrips Donald Trump’s last budget by $30BN and even Biden’s own request by $24BN.
Even allowing for inflation, only one budget was worth more – in 2011, at the height of troop involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The bill was amended after talks with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin earlier this month and doesn’t include sanctions related to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
