Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the double homicide at a home that left a husband and wife dead.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the victims as 52-year-old Christopher Lopez, and his wife, 52-year-old Trinette Lopez.
Investigators believe the shootings occurred on January 12, 2026 around 5:43 a.m. before deputies were called to the 3700 block of Bent Springs Lane in Katy, Texas shortly after 6 a.m. by one of the couple’s adult children, who found both parents shot inside their home.
The suspect, 42-year-old Norman Lee Johnson Jr., was arrested without incident in Round Rock, Texas, by members of the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force and booked into the Williamson County Jail. He now faces Capital Murder charges in connection with the shootings.
According to Sheriff Gonzalez, investigators believe the fatal shooting stemmed from ongoing custody disputes involving the victims’ 7-year-old adopted daughter, who was in the home at the time of the incident.
Johnson is the biological father of that child and had, according to family statements and court records, protested custody arrangements for years.
In October 2024, Johnson was previously charged with harassment for allegedly threatening to kill Christopher Lopez over visitation issues related to the child. Family members told authorities that Johnson had made multiple threats and had a violent criminal history, including a separate alleged assault outside Harris County earlier.
At the time of the shooting, the Lopezes’ two adult children and the 7-year-old girl were asleep upstairs. None of the children were physically hurt in the incident.
Autopsy findings released by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined that Christopher Lopez died from a penetrating gunshot wound to the face, while Trinette Lopez suffered two gunshot wounds to the head and a perforating gunshot wound to her left hand.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) continues its investigation as Johnson awaits transfer to Harris County and further court proceedings. Officials have urged anyone with additional information to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit.
