A man was shot to death after an argument in West Town

The shooting happened at about 2:50 a.m. near Lake Street and Halsted, according to CPD.

A 38-year-old man was in an argument with two men inside a gray sedan, police said.

Police said someone inside the car pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

The victim was shot in the chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he died, police said.

A 28-year-old suspect was grazed by a bullet. He self-transported to University Illinois Chicago Hospital where he was placed into custody.

No other information was available.

Cook County intentional gunshot wound statistics (2018–2020)

A study on intentional assault gunshot wounds treated at 89 Illinois hospitals (including UIC) during the period 2018–2020 revealed the following: 

  • There were 7,122 hospital visits for intentional gunshot wounds by Cook County residents.
  • The number of visits nearly doubled from 1,553 in 2018 to 3,031 in 2020.
  • The overwhelming majority of these patients (over 80%) were Chicago residents.
