Six inmates escaped from Riverbend Detention Center. Four of them — Destin Brogan, Kolin Looney, Kevin Slaughter and Trenton Taplin — have all been arrested on various crimes in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Several inmates who escaped from a Louisiana prison have connections to East Baton Rouge Parish, including suspects in multiple murder cases.

Trenton Taplin was arrested in June 2020 in the deadly shooting of Gary Fielding, 29. A 21-year-old woman was also injured. The shooting happened in the 2800 block of Fairfields Avenue off Plank Road.

Destin Brogan was 18 when he was arrested in the 2022 killing of 20-year-old Erion Franklin. Franklin’s body was discovered on the ground just before 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2022 near a concrete patio area of an apartment complex on O’Neal Lane with a gunshot wound to the head.

Kolin Looney was arrested for burglary in 2023. Less than a year later, he was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in Broussard, according to KATC.

Kevin Slaughter was arrested several times dating back to 2006. His charges range from drug possession to robbery and domestic abuse battery.

Krisean Salinas and Koplelon Vicknair also escaped from Riverbend Detention Center.
