200K without power, trees and wires down in many areas: Nashville, TN
Published by RawNews1st
The Nashville Electric Service said in a social media post it expected that number to rise. Trees or branches weighed down by ice were falling and taking out power lines, the service said.
Over 200,000 Middle Tennesseans were without power the morning of Sunday, Jan. 25, as freezing rain coated the Nashville area in ice.
“Our teams are fully staffed and already in the field assessing damage and beginning repairs,” NES said. “We won’t stop until every customer is back on. Thank you for your patience as our crews work in these difficult conditions.”
Outage numbers as of 8:15 a.m.
- Nashville Electric Service: 174,384
- Middle Tennessee Electric: 13,490
- Cumberland Electric Membership Corp.: Approximately 15,000 (map is out)
- Dickson Electric System: Approximately 5,500
Freezing rain is exacerbating things
“Unfortunately, rainfall rates continue to increase across most of Middle Tennessee, and that’s bad news for us who are on the wrong side of the freezing line,” National Weather Service Nashville said. Precipitation was expected to continue into the afternoon, followed by frigid temperatures.
A massive winter storm has been making its way across the country, and a state of emergency is in place for Tennessee, along with support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
